The Dude is a basic network monitoring tool.
It uses the SNMP protocol which stands for ( Simple Network Monitoring Protocol ).

The SNMP protocol allows network devices to communicate with each other in real time.

The dude is used to monitor a device's online status and network connectivity history.  


This guide will highlight the three most important functions in The Dude software. 

1. The Network Maps 

2. Charts 

3. Logs


To get started , download the installation file from our Tech repo at :  
Double click to install the software and when the software installation is complete, press the windows key and type The Dude. Windows will locate the newly installed package, press the enter button and Windows will open the software. 


After the software is installed and you open The Dude , a login window will be presented. If the default configuration is used the Server value should be 127.0.0.1 the Port should be 2210 and the User name should be admin.
If there values are not in their respective positions, please enter the details and click connect to open the software. 


After the user has successfully logged into The Dude software, the following window is displayed.
The window is broken up into two sections.
The left section is the menu and the right section is the display section. 


Create new map , just click ok 


new map was created, called Network Map


Select Map on left, Click + to add something to map.
enter the device details. 


Discover the devices services 


Explain the Right Click Tools 


Explain the Appearance menu option 


Create a new Chart , Why ? 


Add a service to that chart. Add the Ping service 


Rename the Chart


Create a Custom Log 


Make a device log events  to the Custom log 


Enable polling notification to that log. 


Add the three important features to the Display window.
